Surfacing at St Martins Hospital

The Hospital project commenced in January 2021 and spanned two months.

The task was to turn a large, grassed area into a car park, using a plastic paving grid porous system.

We began by excavating a square area of 1835m & disposing the huge amount of spoil off-site. A layer of geotextile terram (weed suppressant) was laid to facilitate type 3 stone which was compacted by a roller. A 30mm layer of sand screed was laid and levelled in preparation to lay the grids.

Hardwood kerbing was installed & fixed into the ground with spikes to form a perimeter & the plastic paving grids installed & interlocked, section by section.

The white parking markers were clipped into position.

The paving grids were levelled carefully, using a wacker plate.

The whole area was then covered in a hard, granular granite & rolled in. Several smaller problem areas around the hospital were fixed, including replacing kerbs, laying tarmac ramps, cleaning out drainage gullies, clearing vegetation areas & general tarmac repairs, resurfacing approx. 150m2. The project was completed with different line markings, including parking bays & directional arrows.
